NIPSY
Martha's Vineyards new 20ft friendly great white shark- made from recycled beach trash!
In 2019, FOS board members Chick Stapleton and Chris Hall came up with the idea to promote an issue that they are both so passionate about; single use plastics and beach trash.
They used trash collected by the Friends of Sengekontacket Beach Clean Up Program and began sorting through to find what they might need.
All the trash used to make Nipsy, including fishing nets and pool noodles, was found on State Beach and repurposed into a 20ft great white shark placed on a trailer.
NIPSY at the 4th of July parade!
NIPSY at the Ag Fair in 2019, 1st place!
NIPSY was created with the intent to repurpose beach trash into a useful tool. Her large and colorful shape was designed to raise awareness about beach garbage and its damaging effects. Through her debut party, fourth of July parade, Ag fair award, and other events NIPSY reached thousands of eyes and captured the attention of many.
At the end of 2019 NIPSY was destroyed in a hurricane, and we are working to redesign NIPSY 2.0 for the coming years!
